WHERE DO WE START?

How To Become an Ice Hockey Player (here in Raleigh area)

Hi there, New Family!

We are happy to see that your family is interested in having a young one play ice hockey! It is a game that you can play for a long, long, loooong time.  We at the PHHL live by the creed of "Creating Hockey Players for Life". (This is a personal goal as well, since I have been playing since I was 10 yrs old, and I still play in adult leagues in the area with players from my first 12U team. #humblebrag)

There are a few categories your child may currently be in, please look to the categories listed below to guide you in choosing a proper path that would pertain to your family. The guidance below is assuming they want to play in an organized recreational ice hockey league.

Confirm which category your child falls into then choose the corresponding tab below.  The next steps your family needs to take are listed in one of the tabs below.

When you finish the recommendations of a tab, you will be given next steps by the coaching staff/people running that program on what to do next. If you ever feel lost, come back here for guidance! We also have FAQ's and other resources on this website to make sure you can best educate your family. Hockey is not a very intuitive sport to join, after all... Your kid wants to play a super fast game on thin little metal blades knocking around a rubber disk at a poor unsuspecting goalie!

We here at the PHHL are here to help, and want to wish you the best of luck in this journey. This is a journey without an ending though, you can play for life! Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
